History and Architecture of Medienhafen
Media Harbour: Warehouse District to Culture Hub Transformation
The transformation of Medienhafen is nothing short of remarkable. Once a collection of abandoned warehouses and disused buildings, this vibrant and modern district now beckons both locals and travelers alike, offering a captivating fusion of art, culture, and design
The MedienHafen's renaissance commenced in the 1990s, marking a turning point in the history of this picturesque harbor. [1]
With the keen foresight of city planners, the decision was made not to overhaul the entire area in one fell swoop but to breathe new life into it one plot at a time.
This approach yielded remarkable results, as the MedienHafen blossomed into a thriving hub for over 700 companies and a trove of world-class restaurants.
Renowned architects like Frank O. Gehry lent their design excellence to revive the area's industrial heritage into architectural icons that now shape the city's skyline.

In this dynamic district, you'll discover more than just impressive buildings. The MedienHafen is a hub of creativity and culture, with former warehouses now housing ambitious art exhibitions.
For example, at Kai 10, the Arthena Foundation showcases the work of young, international artists, providing an exciting platform for artistic expression.
Its creative industries blend seamlessly with artistic expression making it an epicenter for media, communication, fashion, architecture, art, and culture companies.
Architectural Stars: Medienhafen's Prominent Designers
Frank O. Gehry, renowned for his work on the spectacular Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, has bequeathed Düsseldorf with a magnificent gift in the form of the Neuer Zollhof.
Many architecture enthusiasts are drawn to these iconic structures which contribute significantly to the region's identity.

The design excellence of Medienhafen isn't solely credited to Gehry but also can be attributed to other prominent architects such as Renzo Piano, Helmut Jahn, and David Chipperfield. [2]
These architects, with their varied styles and creative approaches, have collectively transformed the MedienHafen into a harmonious and captivating urban environment.
The district is a living testament to the power of architectural diversity and its ability to create a space where different styles coexist in perfect harmony.
Gehry Buildings and Colorium: Icons of Medienhafen
Gehry's three-part creation, often referred to as the Gehry Buildings, is a marvel to behold, characterized by its undulating forms and whimsical facades.
Each tower, swathed in white, silver, or red, exudes an air of surreal elegance, making them a favorite subject for Instagrammers, photographers, and photography enthusiasts.
On the same "Architecture Mile," we find The Colorium – an unmissable 17-story building with its vibrant facade showcasing myriad hues and patterns.

Buildings with evocative names like Wolkenbügel (Cloud Iron), Sign!, and The Living Bridge serve as creative beacons along the river, forging a harmonious connection with the bustling waters.
The eccentricities of these structures, from tilted walls to canted windows, make every detail a photo-worthy spectacle.
The Rhine Tower
Dominating the MedienHafen skyline, the Rhine Tower, or Rheinturm, stands tall as an architectural marvel and a symbol of Düsseldorf's modernity.
Soaring to a height of 240.5 meters, it graces the entrance to the district with an undeniable presence.

The tower not only offers breathtaking panoramic views from its revolving restaurant, where diners can savor a meal while the world unfolds below, but it also boasts an observation deck that provides unparalleled vistas of the city and the picturesque Rhine River.
With its dynamic, ever-changing scenery and its unique architectural design, the Rhine Tower is a must-visit destination for those seeking a bird's-eye perspective of Düsseldorf's urban beauty.

The VIEW Skylounge & Bar
I had the pleasure of visiting The VIEW Skylounge & Bar, located on top of the INNSIDE hotel where I was staying.
Given the scorching 38°C weather in summer, I opted for the cool comfort of the air-conditioned rooftop. I easily found a window-side seat and ordered from their small lounge/bar menu.
Despite the limited menu, the service was exceptional. The waiter was attentive, and the burger and schnitzel I ordered turned out to be delicious. The drinks were well-made as well.
As the sun set, the view of the promenade became quite impressive. The staff was friendly, and although the drinks were a bit pricey, it's not surprising for a rooftop bar.

The VIEW Skylounge & Bar is about a 20-minute walk from the end of the promenade, but the stunning view and overall experience are well worth it.
I'll definitely be returning to this excellent place with its friendly staff and panoramic view of the Rhein River. The food quality was excellent, and the service was top-notch. My visit to The VIEW was a memorable experience in Dusseldorf City.

Lunchtime is a highlight, offering a quiet ambiance, top-notch food, reasonable prices, and exceptional service. Don't miss their fabulous selection of starters, and sharing platters are a great option for groups.
Meerbar's atmosphere is beautiful and cozy, and while the coffee and sweets are delightful, the chocolate creme brulee is average.
