How We Make Money

Germany Travel Blog is a business. In order to pay for our operational expenses and allow the Germany Travel Blog team to earn a living, Germany Travel Blog uses referral links.

When you use our links to purchase a product or tour, Germany Travel Blog may earn a referral commission.

These referral links don’t cost you anything extra.

They simply tell the respective company that you came from germanytravel.blog. These referral links financially support Germany Travel Blog and let us keep doing what we do best, creating great content.

Our referral links may influence the tours/hotels we review and write about (in addition to where those products appear on Germany Travel Blog). However, our referral links do not affect our scores or recommendations, which are based on our research, experience, and analysis.

Companies don’t pay us to review their tours and hotels and they cannot pay us to rank or score them highly.

How We Review

We research and test tours and hotels for your travel experience. Then we publish our findings in reviews, comparisons, best of guides, videos, and more.

Our process to discover the best tours and accommodations for your travels  includes four critical steps:

  1. Research
  2. Join the Tour/Stay in Hotel
  3. On-Site Evaluation
  4. Review

The vast majority of the tours and hotels we assess follow this systematic process. It is in-depth, rigorous, as we strive to experience them just as a traveler would. To achieve this, we personally visit the destinations and stay in the hotels, immersing ourselves in the day-to-day travel experience.

#1 Research the destination.

Before embarking on any travel tour or booking a hotel, we kick things off with thorough research to understand what options are available. We explore various sources to gather essential information about tours and accommodations before we dive into our evaluation.

We consider factors such as destinations, tour itineraries, hotel features, room specifications, accessibility, and more to determine which tours and hotels make it into our lineup for review.

#2 Join the Tour/Stay in Hotel.

Once we've made our selections for review, we proceed to book the tour or hotel. We do this just like any traveler would. We visit the tour operator's website or hotel booking platform, fill in our information, and eagerly await the confirmation and travel details to arrive.

What about complimentary tours and stays?

In addition to booking, we also accept tour and hotel stays offered by tour operators or hoteliers. However, these complimentary experiences do not influence our reviews.

#3 On-Site Evaluation.

The exact details of our evaluation process may vary depending on the type of tour or hotel, but we always assess each option using standardized criteria that any traveler would consider.

  • What aspects do we examine during our evaluations?
  • What does the tour promise to deliver?
  • How well does it live up to those promises?
  • Are there any extra perks or features that enhance the overall experience?

We document our findings with real experiences to showcase how each tour or hotel performs across different criteria. The overall tour or hotel rating is based on the results of our evaluations and analyses.

Long Term Review Team

Furthermore, we maintain a small team of long-term review volunteers, mainly consisting of family and friends of our team living in the various cities that provide the tours. We send them on these tours or arrange their hotel stays, and they share their firsthand experiences with us. This additional feedback allows us to uncover any noteworthy issues, collect insights, and make necessary updates to our reviews.

#4 The final review.

The final review is written up after a series of evaluations and analyses are completed. All of our final reviews include a broad-spectrum look at the tour or hotel's performance, including the small details and specifications. These factors collectively play a crucial role in helping you decide if a particular tour or hotel suits your specific needs.

While we do offer our opinions on the quality of each tour or hotel, we acknowledge that everyone's preferences differ. Our goal is to equip you with enough information, highlighting the pros and cons, to make an informed decision based on your unique requirements.

What's excellent for one traveler may not be as appealing to another.

Pre-Test Evaluations

Some tours and hotels we consider for review undergo a pre-test evaluation process. In these cases, we conduct extensive research without directly experiencing the tour or hotel ourselves.

We opt for pre-test evaluations for tours and hotels that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. They are not highly sought-after by our audience.
  2. They closely resemble other tours or hotels we've reviewed in the past.
  3. We believe we can gather sufficient insights through research alone.
  4. We wish to provide initial impressions and intend to conduct full evaluations later.

For these pre-test evaluations, we rely on our prior assessments of similar tours or hotels, information and specifications provided by tour operators and hotels, as well as data from third-party sources.

How We Rate Tours and Hotels

We take rating tours and hotels seriously and constantly work to enhance our rating processes for more accurate reviews.

Our rating system is consistent for all tours and hotels on Germany Travel Blog. We evaluate them based on five key factors that reflect their overall performance.

Our 5 Rating Factors

  1. Experience - How enjoyable is the tour or hotel stay in terms of services and amenities?
  2. Performance - How effectively does the tour or hotel deliver on its promises and standards?
  3. Service - Are the accommodations and services of high standard, and is the overall experience issue-free?
  4. Convenience - How easy is it to access and make the most of the tour or hotel services?
  5. Value - How does the overall experience and quality compare to the cost? Is it worth the price?

Each factor contributes 20% to the total score.

Our ratings are based on a 100% scale.

  • 95-100% (exceptional) – These are top-notch tours and hotels.
  • 90-94% (good) – These are very good options for your travel.
  • 85-89% (okay) – These are acceptable choices.
  • 80-84% (poor) – These are below-average tours and hotels.
  • <80% (failing) – These are tours and hotels that do not meet expectations.

In rare cases, we may adapt our rating categories to better suit the tour or hotel. However, this happens only in a few instances.

Updating Our Ratings

As we assess more tours and hotels, we may find the need to update our previous ratings.Sometimes, we come across a tour or hotel that surpasses our previous experiences. In such cases, we adjust the ratings to ensure consistency across our reviews.

On the other hand, if a tour or hotel falls short of expectations, we may give it a lower score. We aim to maintain our reviews and ratings in line with our opinions of the best products.

If we do make rating updates, we provide an explanation at the bottom of the page, detailing the reasons for the change, whether the rating increased or decreased, and the original score.

Referral Links & Relationships

We participate in a variety of referral link programs. Some programs are with eCommerce platforms (like Amazon), some are through a 3rd party network (like GetYourGuide), and some are direct with the hotel or tour provider.

In many cases, there are different referral programs available that sell the same tours/botels. We choose our referral links based on a combination of where we think our audience most wants to purchase a product from and on the commission rate.
